Where can I study in a co-ed environment?

Davis College offers classes to male and female students in a co-ed environment.

Where can I study in an all-female classroom?

Davis College offers female students the choice to study in an all-female classroom. By choosing to study in an all-female classroom, those students will gain access to the Akilah Women’s Center, while taking advantage of all of Davis College’s resources and opportunities. When they graduate, those female students are awarded diplomas from Davis College, with a special Women’s Leadership Certificate in recognition of their participation in the Akilah Women’s Center.

Is financial aid available?

All Davis College students are eligible to apply for tuition financing assistance through our partner, CHANCEN International.

What are the benefits of the all-female classroom experience?

Female students can study in an environment free from gender bias and rich with opportunities to safely explore gender equality:

In this learning environment… females achieve greater academic success and are more confident. As noted by Dr Nicole Archard, in a single-sex school girls are intentionally “equipped with the knowledge and skills required to overcome social and cultural gender biases and in doing so actively break the the stereotypical norms that define women in society” (Archard, 2018).”

Studying in an all-female environment can improve mental and emotional health, and can increase students’ self-confidence, critical thinking, and academic performance (Riggers-Piehl, Lim, & King, 2018). Furthermore, in traditionally male-dominated areas of study or industries, studying in an all-female environment can help boost students’ confidence (Fisher, Lang, & Forgasz, 2015).

Who can access the Akilah Women’s Center?

All Davis College Students! And… Females who enroll in the all-female classes will receive a special Women’s Leadership Certificate for their participation in the Akilah Women’s Center.

What kinds of opportunities are available through the Akilah Women’s Center?

In addition to learning in an all-female classroom, female students who access the Akilah Women’s Center will participate in workshops, seminars, and lectures with female business leaders, mentors, guest speakers, and visiting scholars. These students also have the opportunity to participate in the Big Sister / Little Sister mentorship program between students. Students are invited to participate in conferences and off-campus events that explore and promote women’s advancement.

The Akilah Women’s Center is also a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for all Davis College students and graduates, male and female. It serves as an in-house resource and advisory to Davis College students and faculty on gender awareness, gender-responsive pedagogy, gender equity classroom management, and other gender-based issues and approaches. Graduates can also take part in activities offered by the Center.

In addition, the Akilah Women’s Center delivers impactful programming and services, like the African Women’s Workforce Initiative (AWWI), launched with Google.org funding and support, to advance female leadership, education, and career development in Africa.
